This is the Yeongsil Trail of Hallasan. This trail does not lead to the Baengnokdam summit, but it goes as far as the South Wall Junction below Baengnokdam. In the distance, you can see the cliff where the Baengnokdam summit is located. Hidden within that cliff is Baengnokdam itself. Beautiful and mysterious, isn't it? I was fortunate to visit Sobaekrok (Mulgamaewat) on the Hwangbulgeun Oreum with an authorized exploration team. General access to this site is prohibited. This mysterious elliptical wetland, covering approximately 400 to 500 pyeong, resists exposure. According to the experts in the exploration team, the wetland was formed as the holes in the basalt were filled over many years, retaining water.
